Western Pride
Lion pride in Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, South Africa.
The Western Pride has officially accepted the Skorro male coalition as their dominant protectors after going without steady male leadership for nearly two and a half years. This new alliance has stabilized the pride's core territory around Peru Farms, with rangers recently documenting courtship and mating behavior that promises a new generation of cubs. While the pride previously fragmented into smaller sub-groups due to territorial pressure, they are currently moving as a cohesive unit alongside the Skorro males, even as neighboring coalitions like the Nkombo and Pompom males continue to push regional borders. ●Location Areas: Peru Farms and near the Nzumba airstrip in the Timbavati and Umbabat reserves, with frequent movement into sections of the neighboring Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. ●Recent Activity: The pride—including active females and their young cubs—has been spotted managing kills in their traditional territory and interacting with regional coalitions like the Skorro and Ncila males.
Territory: Timbavati, Umbabat and Klaserie
