Savuti Marsh Pride
Lion pride in Chobe National Park, Botswana.
The Savuti Marsh Pride is one of Botswana’s most famous lion prides, known for its long history in the Savuti region of Chobe National Park. The pride became particularly renowned during the dry years when Savuti’s channel was inactive, when large groups of lions developed an unusual ability to hunt young and occasionally adult elephants. The pride’s history includes the legendary brothers Sekekama and Torn Nose, who dominated the Marsh Pride for many years. Their reign and the struggles within the pride were featured prominently in the wildlife documentary series Savage Kingdom. The pride has experienced major splits, leadership changes and territorial conflicts over the years, reflecting the constantly changing ecology of Savuti.
