Mumbulu pride

Lion pride in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.

The Mumbulu Pride is one of the northernmost lion prides in South Luangwa National Park, occupying the remote Mumbulu area. The pride consists of eight lionesses that work together to hunt, raise cubs, and defend their territory. The pride is protected by the dominant Mumbulu Males, a powerful coalition of two resident males that maintains control of the pride and its surrounding range. These impressive males are most frequently found resting in the dry Mumbulu River bed, where they spend much of their time. It is from this iconic river bed that both the Mumbulu Pride and the Mumbulu Males derive their names. The Mumbulu area provides excellent lion habitat, with abundant prey and vast, undisturbed wilderness. Together, the Mumbulu Pride and the Mumbulu Males represent one of the most important lion populations in the northern sector of South Luangwa National Park.
