Mfuwe pride

Lion pride in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.

The Mfuwe Pride was once one of the largest lion prides in the area, made up of 15 lionesses. In 2021, the pride split into two separate groups. The main Mfuwe Pride retained 8 lionesses, who now form the pride's core. They continue to occupy their traditional range and are the primary pride associated with the Mfuwe area. The remaining 7 lionesses formed a separate pride, commonly known as the Baobab Pride or the Mfuwe Breakaway Pride. Since the split, this pride has established its own territory and functions independently from the main Mfuwe Pride. Despite their separation, both prides share the same lineage and trace their origins back to the original 15-lioness Mfuwe Pride.
