Chichele Pride
Lion pride in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.
Chichele Pride The Chichele Pride occupies the southern region of South Luangwa National Park. Their territory is centered around the scenic Chichele Hills, where they are frequently encountered. The pride is most commonly seen around Mopani Spur and the woodlands behind the lush Chichele Hills. Their range extends toward the Manzi area, where their territory borders neighboring lion prides. The current Chichele Pride consists of 7 adult lionesses, forming the core of the pride. At its peak, including cubs and subadults, the pride numbered around 16 lions. As the young lions matured, several dispersed from the pride. Some of the young females, together with a number of nomadic lionesses, went on to establish a new pride known as the Manzi Pride. Today, the Chichele Pride and the Manzi Pride occupy neighboring territories in the southern section of South Luangwa National Park. Well adapted to the rugged hills and mopane woodlands, the Chichele Pride remains one of the most recognizable and successful lion prides in South Luangwa National Park.
