Brake away Pride
Lion pride in Balule Nature Reserve, South Africa.
On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, we had a sighting of two lions, a young male and a young female. From what we know, these two are believed to have originated from the Grietjie area before being pushed out of that territory. They have since been spending time around the Doreen and Sheila's areas. Based on the pink noses with developing black pigmentation, we estimate that both lions are between 3 and 4 years old. At this stage, we cannot confirm whether these two are the only members of the pride. There could be additional lions in the area, with this pair simply having broken away to mate. Identification marks: • Male: A distinctive tear in his right ear, forming a sideways "W" shape. • Female: A small pale speck just below her right eye. We'll continue monitoring these lions and share any new sightings or updates as we learn more about them.
