Mfuwe males
Male lion coalition in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.
The Mfuwe Males are two powerful brother lions known as Blonde and Blackie. The pair successfully took over their pride in 2023 and have since become one of the dominant coalitions in their territory. Their range is primarily between Wamilombe and Mushroom Lodge, where they regularly patrol, scent-mark, and defend their domain from rival males. Together, they form a formidable partnership, working as a team to protect their pride. Blonde, the younger of the two brothers, is recognized by his lighter mane and energetic nature. While still developing into his full strength, he is a capable hunter and an important partner in defending the pride. Blackie is the older and more dominant brother. Distinguished by his darker mane and commanding presence, he is typically the first to confront threats and plays the leading role in territorial defense. His confidence and strength make him the dominant force within the coalition. Together, Blonde and Blackie represent the strength, teamwork, and resilience that define successful lion coalitions in the wild, ensuring the survival and protection of their pride across the Mfuwe region
