Chinkoto luwi makes

Male lion coalition in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.

The Chinkoto–Luwi Males, sometimes simply known as the Luwi Males, are a formidable coalition of three brothers that dominate the Luwi region in the central section of South Luangwa National Park. The coalition arrived in the area in 2023 after being pushed out of the Mwamba region by rival males. They quickly established themselves by taking over one of the largest lion territories in the park. Today, they control the Luwi, Chinkoto, and Chipela areas, making them one of the most influential coalitions in South Luangwa. They are the dominant males of three prides: the Luwi Pride, Chinkoto Pride, and Chipela Pride, with the Chipela Pride being the smallest of the three. Their remarkable takeover, strong bond as brothers, and ability to defend such a vast territory have made the Chinkoto–Luwi Males one of the most powerful and successful lion coalitions in South Luangwa National Park.
